Submarine paradox softened

چکیده
In Supplee's submarine paradox, a naive argument based on Lorentz contraction leads to contradiction that fast should sink in the water's reference frame but float submarine's frame. Due rigidity constraints, it is not easy resolve paradox manifestly covariant form. To simplify problem, we consider version of which one fluid moves through another fluid. An analysis ideal relativistic fluids weak gravitational field shows moving has larger pressure and, hence, sinks, agreement with known results for rigid submarine.

Softened Lagrangian Hydrodynamics for Cosmology
A new approach to cosmological hydrodynamics is discussed which is based on a moving, quasi-Lagrangian mesh. The softened Lagrangian hydrodynamics (SLH) method utilizes a high resolution Lagrangian hydrodynamic code combined with a low resolution Eulerian solver to deal with severe mesh distortions. Most of the volume of a simulation is treated with the Lagrangian code and only in sites where t...

Exploratory in nature, this study was designed to identify some of the personality trait configurations and attitude change patterns related to individual differences in cold coping capacity (CCC). Three enlisted marines participated in a week-long cold weather North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) combat exercise in upper Norway. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) was a...
متن کاملGauss’s Method for Secular Dynamics, Softened
We show that the algorithm proposed by Gauss to compute the secular evolution of gravitationally interacting Keplerian rings extends naturally to softened gravitational interactions. The resulting tool is ideal for the study of the secular dynamical evolution of nearly Keplerian systems such as stellar clusters surrounding black holes in galactic nuclei, cometary clouds, or planetesimal discs. ...

Plasma vitamin C levels were determined for 28 submariners prior to, during, and after a 68-day patrol. A significant reduction occurred in plasma vitamin C levels during the patrol compared to levels obtained before and after the patrol. These reductions were unrelated to health and performance effects as determined by total dispensary visits, frequency of upper respiratory infections, and tra...
